Her current favorite book is called "The I love you Book", by Todd Parr. It is a very simple book. Very colorful. Short. The pictures are bold, the sentences minimal...but it shows a lot of affection.
I read to Avi mostly right before bed. I like reading to her, because I hope that she has good dreams. I feel that if she goes to sleep, with a nice feeling, and happy thoughts, bad dreams will be minimal. She has night terrors.
And so far, every night I read to her, she doesn't wake up screaming. She sleeps quietly and peacefully, throughout the night.
Sometimes she will search for me, try to find my hand, and hold it. Sometimes, she likes to kick and hit me. But mostly, she sleeps right up next to me, and is tranquil.
I still co-sleep with her. It's just me and her, in the twin sized bed.
We've been sleeping together, alone...for a year or a bit more, now.
She was exclusively breastfed. And she wasn't sleeping through the night. Hugo would often get very little sleep...because Avelina's crying would keep him up.
Caliah had the room all to herself, but we got new neighbors, and they were rowdy, and up all night. One night, they were in an argument, and were banging and shutting doors loudly. Caliah's room shares a wall with their master bedroom, so she would hear everything. She was afraid of being in her room. So, Hugo and I agreed that I'd take her room and share it with Avi...and he and Cali would share our room. Avi's teething, night terrors, and hunger would make her wake up constantly at night, and Caliah's fear would make her uneasy being in her room, so a change of atmosphere all around for all of was in need.
We switched bedrooms. Caliah and Hugo were finally able to sleep.
And in times while Avi teethed, I'd give her booby for comfort, teething pills for soothing, tylenol for pain...and music for relaxing.
It was a great pattern.
Soon, all 4 of us began sleeping, and began resting. To this day, we still hold that routine. It's a nice routine, it's hard to shake off.
Except now, I've learned that reading to Avi, helps against the night terrors. Luckily, she isn't teething anymore. And she's done breastfeeding. That is a whole heartbreak in itself, but, a wonderful ending.
I will continue to read to her, probably until she's off to college.
I don't know when she will request a new book. For now, "The I love you Book" is our bestfriend.
Currently, as I type...I am listening to The Beatles, and am content.
I love reading to my daughters. But when they read to me, it makes me cry, because it is the sweetest thing. Even though Avelina is still learning words, and learning to form sentences, I know she enjoys 'reading' to me. And Caliah loves reading to her baby sister. And when they are together, I wish time would stop...Time is my enemy right now.
I don't want them to grow up. I want to read to them, forever.
